James Knapp Legacy Fund

Denver Gay Men's Chorus, Rocky Mountain Arts Association News

James Knapp has one final concert at the helm of the Denver Gay Men’s Chorus.

As we announced last year, after 41 years conducting, 20 with GALA and ten years with DGMC, James would retire following the 2022-23 season.

As Artistic and Managing Director at DGMC, James has brought countless programs to the stage, and we are very grateful for the legacy he is leaving behind. The Rocky Mountain Arts Association Board recently bestowed James with two honorary titles: Conductor Laureate, and Artistic Director Emeritus.

To celebrate the legacy that James has cemented at DGMC and ensure we continue on his path, we are raising $10,000 to support the Denver Gay Men’s Chorus. The funds will go to the following:

  • Commissioning a new work for his successor to perform with DGMC
  • Endowing DGMC’s LGBTQ+ Educational Outreach Program to local schools
  • Funding a tour to rural Colorado to further the cause of LGBTQ+ education and social justice issues
  • Contracting a marginalized guest artist(s) to perform with the chorus

This James Knapp Legacy Fund will ensure that the chorus continues to thrive and build a community through music. The chorus is needed more than ever. We need to stand strong, sing with great passion, and show that we will not be silenced.

Please consider making a donation to support the chorus today
