Next steps after Tuesday

Denver Feminist Chorus, Denver Gay Men's Chorus, Rocky Mountain Arts Association News

Tuesday’s election results are numbing. Is this really happening?

Sadly, yes.

We know feelings of grief, anger, and despair all too well. They are also our power.  We are resilient, determined, and motivated to ensure we are not put back in the closet and remain as vibrant and relevant as ever.

When the Denver Choruses were founded over 42 years ago, it was to provide a safe, supportive, and affirming space for the LGBTQIA community. Our founders laid out a commitment to the lives and well-being of the community, knowing there would be waves of progress and setbacks through our journey.

How do we move forward? In the days and weeks ahead, we will console, hug, and cry. We must celebrate Colorado’s passage of the Freedom to Marry Act and constitutional protection of bodily autonomy.

In short time, we will pick ourselves up, rally together in creative expression, and continue on our mission: building community through music. Through education, inspiration, and empowerment, our voices will be heard, will make a difference, and will create change. We look forward to being with you, not only in the next four years but also the next 40-plus years.

You are not alone in this journey. We are not going anywhere.

Onward.
