About singing with the Denver Women’s Chorus

When are rehearsals? What if I have a conflict?

The time commitment for DWC includes rehearsals every Sunday evening from 6-9 in Denver, performing concerts in November, January, and May, and attending a weekend retreat in the fall and spring.

What are the financial obligations?

All singers commit to $360 per year. This amount can be paid monthly, semi-annually, or annually. Also, approximately $100 per year is paid for a combined costume and retreat fee. These fees help offset the costs associated with the chorus. Scholarships are available for singers with financial needs.

What will the COVID-19 protocol be for the upcoming season?

The RMAA Covid Taskforce continually monitors local, state, and CDC guidelines and will provide recommendations regarding required social distancing. As of this time, masks are optional. Nobody experiencing symptoms will be permitted into the rehearsal space to avoid any potential exposure. Health assessments may be requested. All individuals attending in-person auditions, rehearsals, or other RMAA organized and sanctioned events must be fully vaccinated against COVID and will be required to show proof.

What Musical Knowledge Or Experience Do You Need?

DWC welcomes singers with diverse musical backgrounds. There are both highly trained singers and singers who have never performed with an ensemble before. While the ability to read music is highly beneficial, inexperienced sight-readers still find success in the chorus by using the practice tracks provided for each song. In the audition, we primarily look for singers who are able to sing a tune accurately and demonstrate a willingness and ability to respond to vocal technique instruction. DWC is a place of learning and growth where you can develop singing skills that you may not know you have yet.

What Should I Expect At My Audition?

We aim to make our auditions as fun and relaxed as possible. Auditions are only 10 minutes long and do not require advance preparation. When you arrive, a chorus member will greet you, put you at ease and answer any questions you might have. During the audition, you can choose to sing either “Happy Birthday” or “My Country tis of Thee,” and our director will take you through some simple exercises to get to know your voice. That’s it!

What If I’ve Never Performed Before?

Prior stage experience is helpful but not required. You will have plenty of time to practice and feel confident before you perform in your first concert.

What Should I Bring To The Audition?

Bring your COVID-19 vaccination record.

Who Will Be Present At My Audition?

DWC Artistic Director Dr. Clelyn Chapin and members from the Chorus Council.

How Do I Find Out Whether Or Not I Made It?

Dr. Chapin will notify you at the completion of your audition!
