Where are auditions:

Denver, a neighborhood north of Hilltop. Location details to be confirmed upon completion of the audition form.

When are rehearsals? What if I have a conflict?

The time commitment for DFC includes rehearsals every Sunday evening from 5-8 in Denver, performing concerts in November, February and May, and attending a weekend retreat in the fall and spring.  Singers will only need to commit to two of three concert cycles.

What are the financial obligations?

All singers commit to $360 per year. This amount can be paid monthly, semi-annually, or annually. Also, approximately $100 per year is paid for a combined costume and retreat fee. These fees help offset the costs associated with the chorus. Scholarships are available for singers with financial needs.

What musical knowledge or experience do you need?

DFC welcomes singers with diverse musical backgrounds. There are both highly trained singers and singers who have never performed with an ensemble before. While the ability to read music is highly beneficial, inexperienced sight-readers still find success in the chorus by using the practice tracks provided for each song. In the audition, we primarily look for singers who are able to sing a tune accurately and demonstrate a willingness and ability to respond to vocal technique instruction. DFC is a place of learning and growth where you can develop singing skills that you may not know you have yet.

What should I expect at my audition?

We aim to make our auditions as fun and relaxed as possible. Auditions are less than 10 minutes long and advanced preparation is not required! When you arrive, a chorus member will greet you, put you at ease and answer any questions you might have. During the audition, it will start with some simple vocal exercises, then you can choose to sing either a short verse and chorus of a song you’ve prepared, (under 30 seconds) or “Happy Birthday” or “My Country tis of Thee”. We don’t mind either way! And our director may ask you to try something differently in another round of your solo. Then take you through some simple exercises to get to know your voice. Then that’s it!

What if I’ve never performed before?

Prior stage experience is helpful but not required. You will have plenty of time to practice and feel confident before you perform in your first concert.

Who will be at my audition?

Incoming DFC Artistic Director Hannah Kimball and the Assistant Artistic Director Emma Jo Larson. DFC volunteers will be there to help with sign-in but will not be in your audition.

How do I find out if I made it or not?

Hannah will notify you via email within a week of auditions.
