James Laguana, Rangeview HS Choir Director

As a graduate of the University of Northern Colorado with a Bachelors in Music Education, and a Masters Degree from Western Governors University, James Laguana has strived to expand, inspire, and educate the future generations. He began his career at his alma mater, Eaglecrest High School in 2002. There he gained experience as the department chair for the performing arts. James taught choir, student leadership, credit recovery, and was the musical director for multiple shows. In 2007 he made the move to Rangeview High School and has enjoyed being the full time Vocal Music Director, which boasts  a program of over 200 students annually. He has also served as the Artistic Director for the Aurora Singers, Aurora’s only community show choir. He and his supportive wife Brook, have two loving children, Riley and Mae. Since the beginning of his career James has pursued the values of equity and understanding. Students refer to his ability to connect with them beyond the content of the classroom, as “heartfelt” and “long lasting”. When people were asked what they liked best about Mr. Laguana, they reminisced on fun classroom days where “LG” would fill the room with precious moments and memories. Some students contact him long after they graduate to ask for advice or to meet for lunch. He hopes to continue to help future minds grow not only in music, but in life as well. He has been known to stop a music lesson for the day to teach students about changing a flat tire, how to cook the perfect steak (thank you Gordon Ramsey), or even to take a day to check in with their mental, physical and spiritual health. Nothing brings him more joy than watching the potential growth come to fruition. Teaching is not a job for him, it is a passion. It is what he was meant to do and will continue to do until his final bow.
