Our new name: Denver Feminist Chorus

This past weekend at the kick off concert to our 41st season, the Denver Women’s Chorus revealed its new name and logo: the Denver Feminist Chorus.

The Denver Feminist Chorus name reflects our diverse identities, further identifies our values, while still maintaining our roots and mission.

As you likely know, since 1984, DWC has been a space for the LGBTQAI+ community and allies to raise their voices for visibility for the queer community, equal rights for women, bodily autonomy, voting equality, and many other social justice causes. Carol White, the chorus founder, chose The Denver Women’s Chorus name with the intent of including not only lesbians but also allies in the community.

As we looked at our evolving chorus family over the past several years, we noticed that the descriptor “women” is inadequate to describe the diverse identities present in our chorus. Over the past year, we explored options for a new name. After surveys, focus groups, and conversations with our key stakeholders, we arrived at a new name, the Denver Feminist Chorus.

We are thankful for you, our supporters, as we continue on our mission to building community through music.
